There were some tense moments in downtown Campbellford on Sunday evening after a man threatened to jump from the roof of a business.
Northumberland OPP responded to the call around 7:15 Sunday night and say the man had set fire to a backpack full of personal belongings, leading to the evacuation of the business, as a precaution in case the fire spread.
OPP officers went up to the roof and were able to convince the man to move to another area, so Trent Hills Firefighters could put out the three-foot high blaze and an OPP crisis negotiator was brought in to talk to the 39-year-old man.
After an hour and a half, the negotiator was able to convince him to come down and he was lowered by a fire truck bucket, before being taken to hospital to be assessed and treated.
Nobody was hurt and the businesses didn’t sustain any damage as a result of the incident.
