Belleville council meets tomorrow afternoon, and CEO of the Chamber of Commerce Jill Raycroft will ask council to pre-approve $50,000 to support the Rogers Hometown Hockey events which will be held in the downtown on February 24 and 25.
The money will pay for such things as washrooms, security, lighting, back-up power, barricades and emergency services.
The average attendance at Rogers Hometown Hockey events is 10,000 people and television viewership ranges between 500,000 and one million people.
It’s predicted the events will bring a gross economic impact to the area of one million dollars.
Rogers Hometown Hockey management expressed interest in coming to Belleville because of its rich hockey history and its move to bring the American Hockey League to the city in the form of the Belleville Senators.
