The mayor of Quinte West, city staff and others who want a health services hub built next to Trenton Memorial Hospital instead of in downtown Trenton have been busy gathering information.
Mayor Jim Harrison says municipal staff have a lot of knowledge about cleaning up contaminated soil and so does GFL Environmental in Brighton.
All of this fact gathering comes ahead of a meeting with officials from the Southeast Local Health Integration Network who have indicated that costs associated with soil cleanup at Trenton Memorial Hospital may cause the health hub to be located downtown.
Mayor Harrison says the hospital location makes more sense in many ways.
The mayor says he’s cautiously optimistic that their information will convince the LHIN to stay with the hospital location for the hub, which was always the preferred location until the site’s contamination came to light recently.
The mayor’s meeting with the LHIN is this Thursday afternoon at the Southeast LHIN offices in Belleville.
