Another strike could be looming at Loyalist College and Ontario’s 23 other colleges, now that faculty have voted in favour of a strike mandate, if ongoing collective bargaining talks break down.
The Ontario Public Service Employees Union says 68% of members voted in favour of a strike if the College Employer Council refuses to budge on some key issues, when talks resume next week.
Those key issues include the role of faculty in academic decision-making and fair treatment of contract faculty, who according to OPSEU, do 81% of teaching at Ontario’s colleges and get paid significantly less than full-time, permanent staff.
The CBA, which expires on September 30th, covers 12,000 faculty, including professors and other instructors, counsellors and librarians.
