The province used the Quinte region as the background for a major funding announcement.
At the Deseronto airport Wednesday afternoon, Deputy Premier Deb Matthews announced $56 million over the next three years, for Ontario’s Aboriginal Institutes, including First Nations Technical Institute in Tyendinaga. It was part of their most recent provincial budget.
Matthews says they are making A.I’s an equal partner with other post secondary institutions.
F.N.T.I Spokesperson Cathie Findlay says the cash will be distributed throughout the province’s nine A.I’s.
On average, the province’s nine A.I.s will each receive $6.2 million in funding over three years.
The funding will have quadrupled since 2014-15.
