A Belleville businessman is going to try and reverse a council decision regarding his vacant property.
Glen Jarrell will appeal council’s recent decision to not allow shipping containers to be used as storage units on his property at 970 Highway 37, formerly the site of Caddy’s Restaurant and Pub.
Council would only allow traditionally built storage units on the site, following initial recommendations from city staff.
Staff had concerns with the appearance of shipping containers and believed that if used as storage units would provide unfair competition to established storage operations.
Jarrell maintains shipping containers are already legally defined as “buildings” and can be used to store property.
A date for an Ontario Municipal Board hearing has not been set.
