Brighton council will discuss grants to community organizations and charities at its meeting tonight.
Over $140,000 in grants from council to others are included in this year’s budget.
That represents close to 2% of Brighton’s overall budget and councillors Ostrander and Martinello question whether some of the grants are focused on council’s core responsibilities.
Meanwhile, residents in Brighton might be able to watch their council in action live via their computers and smartphones by late summer.
At its meeting tonight, council will vote on a motion to have the equipment to livestream meetings up and running by July 31 at the latest.
Currently, Prince Edward County, Belleville, and Quinte West councils all livestream meetings over the internet.
Brighton council meets at 6:30 this evening in council chambers.
