Just one night after a tough loss in the Battle of Quinte to the Trenton Golden Hawks, the Wellington Dukes went down in defeat in Oakville Saturday night. The host Blades defeated the Dukes 2-1 in overtime.
Brayden Stortz’s 16th goal of the season was the only lamplighter for Wellington. Nic Mucci and Brody Morris drew assists.
Connor Ryckman stopped 29 Oakville shots in the loss.
Wellington is off until Friday when they are home to the Aurora Tigers.
Meanwhile in Jr. C play, the Napanee Raiders kept the Campbellford Rebels winless with a 7-1 thrashing.
Devon King fired home a hat-trick and added an assist for a four point night, and rookies Tyler Ignazzitto and Curtis Marrison had a pair of goals for the visiting Raiders.
Veteran Rebel Jeremiah Doherty had the only tally for the home side.
Matt Loveys made 21 saves in the win for Napanee.
The Raiders continue their busy three-in-three weekend with a stop in Gananoque tonight. Puck drop is 7 p.m.
