A former Stirling resident has been sentenced to 12 months in jail for his role in disposing of a dead body north of Prescott.
In May, 30-year-old Matthew Vincent Benoit pleaded guilty to a charge of indignity to a human body, after a Niagara region man was dumped in Kemptville Creek last October.
Twenty-seven-year-old Deepak Beaudoin-Reichmann, who was at a party with Benoit, overdosed on drugs and eventually died.
Party goers, including Benoit, put his body in a hockey bag and dumped it in the water.
A local family made the discovery days later.
One person has already received a sentence of more than five years.
While the Crown had asked that Benoit and another man each receive three-and-a-half years for their role, Benoit was sentenced to 12 months on Friday and given four months credit for time already served.
