There’s some good news for the Hastings Local Housing Corporation apartment building in Belleville.
Hastings County has received $338,303 under the Social Housing Electricity Efficiency Program.
The Hastings-Quinte social services committee is recommending that the money be used for energy efficiency at two locations.
Fifty-three percent, or $179,000 will go to the Bleecker Avenue property in Belleville, and the remainder to North Hastings Non-Profit Housing Corporation facility in Bancroft.
The funding is for buildings that have electrical heating and the tenants pay for their own electricity.
Social Services executive director Steve Gatward says the money will be used to replace windows and doors.
The intention is to complete replacement projects at both properties that were budgeted for a total amount of $235,300.
The proposal is that if the remaining funding, about $100,000, is available through competitive tendering, new baseboard heaters would be installed at the Bleecker Avenue building, and the installation of new Energy Star rated appliances at the facility at Woodview Lane in Bancroft.
The Belleville building is a 48-unit family townhouse property and the one in Bancroft has 57 family units.
