A North Hastings woman is organizing a province-wide protest against government funding cuts to people raising their grandchildren.
Betty Cornelius of McArthur’s Mills says the Community and Social Services Ministry will eliminate the money to grandparents keeping their children’s kids.
She says she’s also upset about comments by the minister, Madeleine Meilleur, that people who can’t afford to raise their grandchildren should turn their over to the Children’s Aid Society or apply for welfare..
Cornelius is encouraging grandparents concerned about the funding issue to leave dolls, representing their grandchildren, at Meilleur’s office in Toronto this thursday, or at their local Liberal M-P-P’s office.
