Belleville’s club claims 8 gold and 1 silver medal
An outstanding performance by the Apollo Barbell Club at the national weightlifting championships in Montreal.
The Belleville club took eight gold medals and one silver at yesterday’s competition.
Participating were 50 athletes from across Canada…and all nine from Belleville placed and received medals in their categories.
Shirley Bly placed 1st in the 69 plus kilo class group F60 with a Total of 58 kilos.
Donald Buchanan placed 1st in the 85 kilo class group M75 with a Total of 95 kilos.
Manley Bly placed 1st in the 69 kilo class group M65 with a Total of 60 kilos.
Tony Walt placed 1st in the 105 kilo class group M40 with a Total of 270 kilos.
Joel Carr-Braint placed 1st in the 106 kilo class group M50 with a Total of 186 kilos.
Bob Walt placed 1st in the 94 kilo class group M60 with a Total of 200 kilos.
Gary Lewis placed 1st in the 105 kilo class group M45 with a Total of 177 kilos.
Sean Gawley placed 1st in the 106 kilo class group M35 with a Total of 270 kilos.
Rick Denard placed 2nd in the 105 kilo class group M60 with a Total of 88 kilos.
