Damage continues to be assessed following a major power surge that took place late last week in The County.
According to several local businesses, they received major damage, following scheduled electrical work by Hydro One last Friday.
Officials with Coaches Pub in Picton called it a serious electrical transformer incident.
In an article in the Picton Gazette, a mistake in the work created a major power surge, not only shutting off the lights of the four businesses, but causing damage to a lot of their equipment, electrical boxes and wiring.
Coaches Pub, Magpie, the County Club and Spa, and Community Care for Seniors were effected.
The article adds that some of the businesses are still closed and Hydro One has acknowledged the mistake.
The companies are checking wiring and circuits to ensure everything is operating normally, however are at various stages of re-opening.
A statement by Community Care for Seniors
We are still without power in our building at 74 King Street in Picton. A team of electricians are here working on it. This could be a long road.
Hydro One was changing transformers in Market Lane the end of last week and there was a huge power surge into four commercial buildings in Picton. Community Care was one of them.
There is a possibility that everything electrical in our building was affected. This would include all computers, lights, appliances, our phone system and the HVAC unit. We won’t know until the electricians give us an update later today.
