Quinte West Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) has charged three people with impaired offences over the last few days.
On Saturday, October 4, 2026, just before 2:00 a.m., officers with the Quinte West OPP were dispatched following a report of a possible impaired driver leaving an establishment on Front Street in Quinte West. The vehicle was subsequently located by police and a traffic stop was conducted.
During the investigation, officers observed signs of impairment and the driver was arrested and transported to the Quinte West OPP Detachment for further testing.
As a result of the investigation, Andrew VIEL, 36 years old of Belleville, has been charged with the following Criminal Code (CC) offences:
- Operation while impaired by alcohol
- Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)
The accused was issued a 90-day Administrative Driver’s Licence Suspension (ADLS) and the vehicle was impounded for seven days.
The accused was released from custody and is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Belleville on November 19, 2026.
On Saturday October 4, 2026, just after 5:00 a.m., members of the Quinte West Detachment responded to a report of a possible impaired driver in the area of Division Street and King Street in Quinte West. The caller reported that a SUV had been observed driving erratically and had at one point been parked on a grassy area before coming to a stop.
Officers quickly located the vehicle and initiated an investigation. As a result, police arrested the driver for impaired operation by drugs. The accused was transported to the Quinte West OPP Detachment where a Drug Recognition Evaluation (DRE) was conducted as part of the investigation.
As a result of the investigation, Mekyla LANDRY, 32 years old of Belleville, has been charged with the following Criminal Code (CC) offences:
- Operation while impaired by drugs
The accused was released from custody and is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Belleville on November 19, 2026.
On Wednesday, October 7, 2026, just after 8:00 p.m., members of the Quinte West OPP observed an individual operating an e-scooter on South Trent Street in Quinte West during without the required lighting equipment.
During the investigation, officers determined the rider had consumed alcohol and formed grounds to believe their ability to operate the e-scooter was impaired. The rider was required to provide a sample into an Approved Screening Device (ASD). The individual was subsequently arrested and transported to the Quinte West Detachment for further testing.
As a result of the investigation, James SPRATT, 64 years old of Quinte West, has been charged with the following Criminal Code (CC) offences:
- Operation while impaired by alcohol
- Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)
- Operation while prohibited
