On August 26, while on general patrol in the city’s east end, Belleville police received a report of an assault that had occurred earlier that day.
It was reported that a male had taken a female’s purse and walked away.
When the female attempted to retrieve her property, the male punched her in the face before fleeing the area.
Police investigated the incident, however, they did not locate the suspect at that time.
On August 27, 2026, Belleville police returned to the area and located the male suspect.
As a result of the investigation, a 41-year-old Belleville man of no fixed address was arrested and charged with:
· Assault – spousal
· Fail to comply with probation order x 2
He was held for a bail hearing.
