There was a violent assault at an apartment building in Belleville’s west end late Tuesday afternoon.
City police responded shortly after 4 p.m. to learn that a man had assaulted another man by hitting him on the leg with a hammer and spitting on him.
A window was also smashed.
The suspect then returned to his apartment and stayed there until shortly before 6 p.m. after officers negotiated his surrender.
A 33 year-old Belleville man faces four charges including assault with a weapon and possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose.
