Thinking about riding an e-scooter around Prince Edward County?
Local OPP officers are warning residents that you could face serious penalties if you take those devices onto public streets or sidewalks.
While Ontario introduced a provincial e-scooter pilot program, individual municipalities are required to opt in.
Prince Edward County has not adopted the program, meaning local regulations still strictly prohibit motorized scooters.
Under By-law 1733-2006, these devices—defined as motorized stand-up skateboards—are banned from all local roadways, highways, and walkways.
Depending on the device, some e-scooters can even be classified as full motor vehicles under Ontario’s Highway Traffic Act.
That means illegally riding one could result in fines, vehicle impoundment, or driver’s licence enforcement.
If you own an e-scooter in the county, be sure to keep your rides strictly on private property.
