Final preparations are underway on Phillipston Road in Thurlow for the Hastings County Plowing Match and Farm Show happening Wednesday and Thursday.
The Denyes family are hosting this year’s event at Denhaven Farms (268 Phillipston Road).
Speaking with the Mix Morning Crew on Tuesday, one of the event’s organizers, Brian Dracup, said the plowing competitions remain a big focus of the show.
“Well we have 10 4-H Club members that are going to show what they’ve learned this year. And then we’re hoping for about six horse teams to come and plow and we’ll probably have about 12-15 plowmen out here doing their craft, turning the soil.”
There will also be more than 95 vendors on-site.
“All agricultural-based. We have anthing from great big tractors right down to your four-wheelers and your lawn mowers sitting here ready to be seen and talk to the salesmen from your local dealerships.”
In addition, there will be an antique farm equipment show, food vendors, children’s activities and live entertainment.
The Queen and Princess of the Furrow will also be crowned on Thursday.
Adult admission is $8 each day. Children 12 and under are free. Debit cards and Mastercard are being accepted at the gate.
Parking is also free.
The International Plowing Match will be held in Walkerton in late September.
