Belleville City Council approved a motion that looks to try and quiet things down in the far east end of the city at its meeting on Monday.
Council approved a motion to apply to the Rail Safety Initiatives Fund for $200,000 to help pay the $400,000 cost of upgrading the CP rail crossings at Elmwood Drive and Mitchell Road.
This would allow for trains to stop blowing their horns at those crossings.
The $400,000 would be an amendment to the 2026 Capital Budget, with the other $200,000 coming from the Asset Management Reserve Fund.
Commenting on the motion, Councillor Paul Carr called on the public to reach out to Bay of Quinte MP Chris Malette to ask for his advocacy and support to allow this application to pass through Transport Canada.
