Both the crime rate and the crime severity index (CSI) were lower in the Quinte region last year than in 2024.
According to a report from Statistics Canada the local trend mirrored the national and provincial trends.
The report on police-reported crime statistics shows the crime rate in the Belleville-Quinte West Census
Metropolitan Area was 4,920 crimes per 100,000 population, 2 percent lower than in 2024.
In Kingston there were 5,005 crimes reported per 100,000, a little higher than the year before.
In Peterborough the rate was 5,385 per 100,000, 6% lower than in ‘24.
The 2025 national crime rate was 5,558 per 100,000, 2.4% lower than the year before.
The local crime severity index was 63.1, down 3%. The national CSI was 75, also a bit lower.
The Belleville-Quinte West Census Metropolitan Area is comprised of Belleville, Quinte West, Stirling-Rawdon,
and Tyendinaga-Deseronto and includes statistics from the Belleville Police Service and local OPP detachments.
