A major construction contract has been awarded for the expansion of Quinte Detention Centre in Greater Napanee.
Infrastructure Ontario and the Ministry of the Solicitor General announced a contract for $178 million to EBC Incorporated.
The project stems from a procurement process that first launched in October 2024.
The expansion will add space for 91 new beds, pushing the facility’s total capacity past 300.
Key upgrades include increased accommodation for female inmates and enhanced recreational service areas.
Plans also call for a larger health services unit and infirmary.
Additionally, the project will expand admissions, discharge, reception, and visitation spaces. New offices for executive administration, upgraded security zones, and parking enhancements are also included.
Officials say the work is designed to improve overall safety for both staff and inmates. Construction on the expansion is expected to get underway later this year.
