A public information session is set to take place on Wednesday, August 12, from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. to provide information about the Brighton Lands Program.
The program involves the municipally owned lands located east of No Frills in Brighton.
Mayor Brian Ostrander says feedback is being sought on what that land should look like.
“We know that the municipality wants some affordability, but what else do you want there?” Mayor Ostrander tells Quinte News.
“Do you want commercial? Do you want park space? How do you want people to access this? Should it be walkable? Does every home need a driveway? Should there be a transit node at some point? You know that’s the kind of thing we’re going to want to ask.”
According to the municipality in a release, revenues generated through the program are intended to be reinvested into a reserve or revolving fund that will help support the sustainable, long-term management of the program.
The development of a municipal lands program was identified as a priority in Brighton’s 2023-2026 Strategic Plan, which the municipality says supports its commitment to increasing the supply of affordable housing through a mixed-use development.
Members of the public are encouraged to attend to meet with municipal staff and the consultant team.
