Members of the Prince Edward County Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) charged nine drivers with impaired driving-related offences during July 2026.
The nine incidents, which occurred throughout Prince Edward County during July 2026, demonstrate that impaired driving continues to pose a serious risk on local roadways. Through proactive enforcement, Reduce Impaired Driving Everywhere (RIDE) programs, traffic stops, collision investigations, and information received from the public, officers removed nine impaired drivers from local roadways.
On July 1, 2026, shortly after 3:00 a.m., Prince Edward County OPP officers were conducting a Reduce Impaired Driving Everywhere (RIDE) program in Picton when a vehicle entered the checkpoint. The driver registered a Fail on an Approved Screening Device (ASD) and was arrested.
As a result, Christopher Sampson, age 41 of Picton, was charged with:
- Operation while impaired – alcohol
- Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)
On July 4, 2026, shortly after 5:00 p.m., Prince Edward County OPP officers responded to a traffic complaint involving a suspected impaired driver in Wellington. Following an investigation, the driver was arrested.
As a result, David Tobin, age 62 of Wellington, was charged with:
- Operation while impaired – alcohol
- Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)
On July 7, 2026, at approximately 7:30 p.m., Prince Edward County OPP officers received a traffic complaint regarding a vehicle swerving into oncoming lanes of traffic. Officers located the vehicle in the Millennium Trail Lookout parking lot and arrested the driver following an investigation.
As a result, Bradley Chapman, age 48 of Picton, was charged with:
- Operation while impaired – alcohol
- Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)
On July 17, 2026, at approximately 10:30 p.m., an officer observed a vehicle exhibiting erratic driving behaviour in Picton, including repeatedly stopping, making abrupt turns, and impeding traffic. Following a traffic stop and investigation, the driver registered a Fail on an ASD and was arrested.
As a result, Alla Adler, age 50 of North York, was charged with:
- Operation while impaired – alcohol
- Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)
On July 18, 2026, shortly after 5:00 a.m., officers observed a vehicle take a sharp corner and nearly collide with a police cruiser. Following a traffic stop and investigation, the driver registered a Fail on an ASD and was arrested.
As a result, Dane Malcom, age 58 of South Carolina, was charged with:
- Operation while impaired – alcohol and drugs
- Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)
On July 24, 2026, police received information regarding an individual who had left a residence while impaired and may have been in possession of a firearm. Officers located the vehicle in Bloomfield and arrested the driver. A subsequent search of the vehicle located a firearm.
As a result, Cameron Williams, age 25 of Prince Edward County, was charged with:
- Operation while impaired – alcohol and drugs
- Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)
- Unauthorized possession of a firearm
- Careless storage of a firearm, weapon, prohibited device or ammunition
- Possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose
- Occupant of motor vehicle knowing there was a firearm
On July 25, 2026, at approximately 7:00 p.m., police responded to a motorcycle collision in Picton. Following the investigation, the driver was arrested and transported to the detachment.
As a result, Benjamin Lecuyer, age 38 of Ottawa, was charged with:
- Operation while impaired – alcohol and drugs
- Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)
On July 29, 2026, shortly after 8:00 p.m., officers attended an address following information received from emergency services regarding an individual. Officers located a vehicle in a field. The driver was arrested and transported to the detachment.
As a result, Thomas Armstrong, age 62 of Picton, was charged with:
- Operation while impaired – alcohol and drugs
- Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)
On July 30, 2026, shortly after 3:00 p.m., officers responded to a collision involving a suspected impaired driver near Bloomfield. Officers located the vehicle after it had collided with a tree and subsequently arrested the driver following an investigation.
As a result, Emilie Labrie, age 45 of Val-d’Or, was charged with:
- Operation while impaired – alcohol and drugs
- Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)
- Dangerous operation
In total, nine drivers were charged with impaired driving-related offences in Prince Edward County during July 2026. Each incident represented a preventable threat to public safety and reinforces the importance of ongoing enforcement and public reporting.
