The Ontario Provincial Police are ramping up patrols across the province for the Civic Holiday long weekend.
Officers with Bancroft, Northumberland, L&A County, Central Hastings, Quinte West, and Prince Edward detachments are strictly targeting the “Big Four” leading causes of road fatalities.
They are impaired, aggressive, and distracted driving, along with seatbelt non-compliance.
Regional enforcement will also deploy eyes in the sky, using the OPP Airplane Enforcement Program in high-traffic corridors.
There will also be increased enforcement in trails and waterways.
Drivers are reminded that Ontario law requires motorists to slow down and safely move over when approaching any stopped emergency or roadside assistance vehicle with flashing lights.
