Belleville police have made an arrest in an intimate partner violence investigation.
On Friday, officers responded to a home in the city’s west end following an incident. A woman told officers that on the previous evening she’d heard suspicious noises outside her window, and the following morning she’d found her window damaged from a BB gun shot.
The officers started an investigation, and learned that the woman’s daughter had been involved in a confrontation with an ex-partner that night. Police spoke to the daughter, who said she was getting unwanted messages from her ex-partner while away from the home. These messages included threats against her and her family.
Police were also informed of a previous incident involving the daughter and her ex-partner, where a verbal dispute had escalated and the ex-partner held an imitation firearm to the daughter’s head.
On Saturday, as a result of the investigation, a 17-year-old Belleville teen whose name is protected under the Youth Criminal Justice Act, has been arrested and charged with:
· Assault with a weapon
· Possession of weapon for dangerous purpose
· Mischief under $5000
· Uttering threats – damage property
· Uttering threats – cause death or bodily harm x3
· Fail to comply with sentence
He was held for a bail hearing.
