The Bay of Quinte Yacht Club is celebrating it’s 150th anniversary this year.
The club was founded in 1876, with their first yachts sailing the following year. The club started with 20 members, and 11 yachts.
The Bay of Quinte Yacht Club is the fourth oldest yacht club in Canada, and the second oldest in Ontario. The only older yacht club in Ontario is the Royal Canadian Yacht club in Toronto, which was founded in 1852.
In honour of the 150th anniversary, many events have been planned across the boating season. The The Shark 24 World Championship regatta is currently underway, and set to wrap up on Thursday. Competitors from around the world are in to race the 24ft boats across the bay.
The annual Eastern Yachting Circuit races are also being held in Belleville this year, bringing in competitors from across Canada in a variety of boat designs. Those races will take place from July 9th to 11th.
To mark the official anniversary date, a jubilee celebration will be held on September 11th and 12th.
