Doctors wanted. That was a message given to Quinte Health’s board of directors on Tuesday.
While staffing for most medical positions, including nurses, at local hospitals is at a full complement, the number of doctors continues to fall short compared to the number of patients needing to be seen.
And the demand for hospitalists will only grow with an increasing population of people over 75 in the Quinte region.
Chief of Staff Dr. Colin MacPherson says they’re planning to meet future demand.
“There too I think we’ve evolved and doing a better job. We have really worked on our on-boarding processes (integrating new clinical staff) and our recruitment processes.”
The addition of nurse practitioners and physician assistants to the medical staff has been a big help in dealing with the patient load.
