Long wait times in emergency departments are a problem in all hospitals, at least some of the time.
However, as the Quinte Health Board of Directors learned Tuesday, wait times are getting shorter, especially in its largest emergency room at Belleville General.
In the past 12 months, the total amount of time more complex patients spent getting care in BGH’s emergency department was 8.7 hours.
That’s a 25 per cent drop from the previous year’s 11.6 hours.
For patients with less complex issues, the total length of stay in the emergency room at BGH was 3.4 hours in the fourth quarter, down from almost five hours the previous quarter.
