A pair of people are facing several charges after an overnight traffic stop in Prince Edward County.
On Saturday, shortly before midnight, an officer with Prince Edward County OPP conducted a traffic stop on County Road 1 after an Automated Licence Plate Reader alert indicated the registered owner of the vehicle was a suspended driver.
During the investigation, officers confirmed the driver was operating a motor vehicle while under suspension. The driver also displayed signs consistent with impairment. The driver was arrested and transported to the detachment for further testing.
Officers also found and seized a quantity of a suspected Schedule I substance during the investigation.
Joel Mathlin, a 44-year-old Marysville man, has been charged with operation while impaired and driving while under suspension.
Christy Fry, a 33-year-old Belleville resident, was charged with possession of a Schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking – cocaine.
OPP are reminding the public that impaired driving remains a serious threat to safety on the roads, and that enforcement efforts will continue across the region.
