Prince Edward County council could vote itself a pay raise at its regular meeting Tuesday.
Council had asked for consultants to report on how its current remuneration compares to other municipalities.
A comparison of 19 similar municipalities showed council’s pay rate as being in the middle of the pack.
However, the county is a single-tier municipality, and when compared to others in that category, the mayor’s and council’s remuneration is very low.
Should council choose to select the option of meeting the average pay scale of the six, single-tier communities in the comparison, the mayor’s salary would increase from $59,290 to $96,590 and councillors’ pay would go up to $40,422 from $29,645.
The report provides council with several options, including keeping things as they are.
