“I think we see that with just the rate of inflation in recent years. Costs are going up overall, and the rate of inflation has been higher than what the funding increases have been.”
“About 90 per cent of our budget comes directly from the Ontario provincial government. The main funding model, it’s called the core education funding. So, there’s six different pillars of funds within that.”
The six pillars of funding are Classroom Staffing, Learning Resources, Special Education, School Facilities Fund, Student Transportation, and School Board Administration Fund (SBAF).
“Achieving a balanced budget in the current economic climate becoming harder and harder every year. Our salaries and benefits, they account for about 80% of our total budget, but that’s not the only fixed cost that we would have either. Our utilities, software licenses just to to keep operations up and running, we’ve got insurance costs.”
