The Quinte Red Devils were well represented at the 2026 OHL Priority Selection Draft over the weekend.
Seven players were selected from the Red Devils over the span of two days, the most by a team in the Ontario Minor Hockey Association.
For the first time in the organization’s history, two of those players were selected in the first round.
The first Red Devil to go off the board was forward Lauchlan Whelan to the Windsor Spitfires with the 16th overall pick.
Whelan spoke about being a part of the Red Devils organization after his selection.
“I stuck with Quinte right from the start, and I’m so thankful that I stuck with them,” Whelan told media.
“Everything that they’ve done for me, from the coaches to the players, it’s something truly special, and they’re people I can call family at the end of the day, and to have them in my back pocket, it’s something truly special.”
Two picks later, fellow Quinte Red Devil, forward Andrew Laurin, was selected by the Ottawa 67’s.
Laurin told media that he is looking forward to celebrating the occasion with Laurin as well as his teammates.
“Our brothers play on the same minor hockey team, so we’ll see each other a lot,” Laurin said after his selection. “(Looking forward to) connecting with all the guys, and celebrating one another on a great year.”
