A 30-year-old man was held in custody pending a bail hearing after two people were assaulted in Belleville on Thursday.
In the afternoon, a man reported he’d been punched in the face several times by a person he knew, resulting in minor injuries.
Officers searched the area and located the suspect.
The male initially attempted to flee on foot; however, officers were able to quickly take him into custody.
During the investigation, police learned that earlier in the day, the suspect assaulted a woman and had breached court-ordered conditions prohibiting contact with her.
The unidentified accused, of no fixed address, is charged with one count of assault, one count of spousal assault, and four counts of breach of probation.
