Hastings County is getting some extra dollars to fund childcare spaces.
The Ministry of Education has updated the Canada-Wide Early Learning and Child Care space allotments, funding additional spaces in Hastings County.
During Thursday’s meeting of Hastings County Council, councillors reviewed a report on the updated arrangement with the ministry, offering 160 additional childcare spaces, and additional funding of $1,483,521.
The bonus spaces, along with 39 spaces reallocated after a project was cancelled, has resulted in an additional 199 childcare spaces planned to be available by the end of the year.
Council voted to amend the funding deal with the ministry in order to accept the increased funding.
