Belleville police responded to 212 calls for service from 5 a.m. on May 22, 2026 to 5 a.m. on May 25, 2026.
Break and Enter
On May 24, 2026 at 7:51 a.m., Belleville police responded to a report of a break and enter in the downtown area. It was reported that the business owner discovered signs of unauthorized entry into the business and observed that the cash register had been accessed. Officers reviewed surveillance footage, which showed a suspect entering the premises and accessing the register.
At 9:28 a.m., officers located the male suspect on Dundas Street East.
As a result of police investigation, James Patrick, a 46-year-old Belleville man of no fixed address, was arrested and charged with:
· Break and enter
· Fail to comply with a probation order
He was released on an undertaking with a scheduled court date in July.
Assault
On May 22, 2026 at 6:05 p.m., Belleville police responded to a report of a disturbance on Front Street.
It was reported that a male struck another male in the face and continued to assault him while he was on the ground. Officers located the suspect a short distance away. As a result of police investigation, Erik Benford, a 52-year-old Belleville male, was arrested and charged with assault.
He was released on an undertaking with a scheduled court date in July.
Warrants
On May 22, 2026 at 9:45 a.m., Belleville police received information that a male who was known to have multiple outstanding Belleville Police Service arrest warrants was walking in the city’s west end.
Officers attended the area and located the male, who fled upon seeing police. He was observed riding a bicycle into the river to escape but was taken into custody shortly after. As a result, Evan Novak, a 34-year-old Belleville man of no fixed address, was arrested o the strength of the outstanding warrants. He was held for a bail hearing.
