Tyendinaga Police Service has named an Acting Chief of Police as it continues to move forward with transition toward a standalone policing model.
Sgt. Nathan Leland takes over the role as of Monday.
Sgt. Chris Brinklow, who had been performing the duty, will be moving internally to oversee supervisory frontline responsibilities within the service.
Last fall, the Tyendinaga Police Service announced it would be transitioning its policing model from the Ontario First Nations Policing Agreement, administered by the OPP, to its own self-administered police service.
Tyendinaga Mohawk Territory is the first community to undertake such a change in over 25 years.
The board will oversee policing governance as an independent agency appointed by the Tyendinaga Mohawk Council.
