The 2026 Play a Round for the Kids Golf Tournament kicked off tournament season in unforgettable fashion as 155 golfers filled the fairways at Black Bear Ridge Golf Resort for a sold-out day in support of The Children’s Foundation.
With blue skies, sunshine, and incredible community spirit from start to finish, the tournament raised more than $70,000 for the foundation’s Playing for Keeps program, helping local children and youth access sports, recreation, arts, and extracurricular activities across Hastings, Northumberland, and Prince Edward Counties.
A full field of 144 golfers took to the championship course while another 11 players joined the nine-hole tournament, all coming together for one shared purpose, creating opportunities for children to explore, learn, play, and thrive.

The Children’s Foundation extends heartfelt thanks to championship sponsors Peter Smith GM and McDougall Insurance, along with the many sponsors, volunteers, prize donors, golfers, and community supporters who made the day possible.
“It was one of those days where you could truly feel the community coming together,” said Ingrid Moore, Executive Director of The Children’s Foundation. “There was so much energy, generosity, and excitement on the course. Because of events like this, more children in our community will get the chance to put on the jersey, join the team, take the dance class, learn a new skill, build confidence, and simply enjoy the moments that every child deserves.”
Community Engagement and Events Coordinator Dreya Richardson says the success of the tournament is only possible because of the dedicated volunteer committee behind it. “We are incredibly grateful to Beckie Sarles-Davis, Sheri Thompson, Charlotte Chittenden, and Sam Dafoe for the countless hours they poured into this event,” said Richardson. “From our golfers and sponsors to every volunteer and donor, this truly felt like a community celebration from beginning to end.”
Funds raised through Play a Round for the Kids will directly support Playing for Keeps, a Children’s Foundation program that helps remove financial barriers preventing children and youth from participating in sports, recreation, arts, and extracurricular activities.
