Greater Napanee is receiving almost $7.7 million in provincial funding to rebuild water mains on Centre Street and Isabella Street.
Hastings-Lennox and Addington MPP Ric Bresee announced the funding on Wednesday.
The money is coming from the province’s Municipal Housing Infrastructure Program’s Health and Safety Water Stream.
The provincial government has added $700 million to the program for a total of $875 million to support access to safe drinking water, housing, job creation and protection for communities in the event of extreme weather events.
“I am thrilled to see the positive relationship between the province and Greater Napanee has resulted in this tremendous contribution to the safe water system for the residents of Greater Napanee,” Bresee said. “I am grateful to Premier Ford and to Minister McCarthy for continuing to show support for our small, rural and northern communities, ensuring that safe water systems are sustainable across the province.”
Greater Napanee Mayor Terry Richardson said, “We at the Town of Greater Napanee are extremely excited to learn of the almost $7.7-million investment by the Ford government into our town’s aging infrastructure. This investment will assist our municipality to continue to grow and remain a vibrant and successful community well into the future. Partnerships with upper levels of governments are imperative to the success of small rural municipalities, and we are grateful for the exemplary working relationship we have with our provincial partners.”
