Northumberland OPP have charged a man with impaired driving, after originally stopping him for speeding.
At approximately 1:30 a.m. on Thursday, officers were conducting speed enforcement along Hwy 401 in Brighton, when they saw a passenger vehicle moving at 170km/h.
The vehicle was stopped, and after speaking with the driver, officers initiated an impaired driving investigation. The driver was taken into custody and transported to a local detachment for further testing.
MD Tawhidul Joy, a 29-year-old from Scarborough, faces charges of stunt driving, operation while impaired, and blood alcohol over 80.
The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Cobourg. Their driver’s licence was suspended for 90 days and vehicle impounded for 14.
