On November 1, 2025, Habitat for Humanity Prince Edward– Hastings (Habitat PEH) swept up success at its 2nd Annual Rock Solid Housing Bonspiel, held at the Quinte Curling Club. The event brought local businesses, community members, and curling enthusiasts together for a lively day on the ice in support of safe, affordable homeownership for families in Hastings and Prince Edward Counties.
A full ice of eight teams from first-time curlers to seasoned skips took to the sheets “throwing rocks” for a rock-solid cause. The spirit of friendly competition filled the arena, with plenty of laughter, cheering, and sweeping as teams curled end-to-end for Habitat PEH. And in true community fashion, even the last-place teams left smiling — especially when the winners treated them to celebratory drinks!
The Rock Solid Housing Bonspiel raised $8,250 toward Habitat PEH’s ongoing projects.
This includes the continued demolition at 93 Dundas Street, preparing for the 66 unit condominium complex Habitat Village, and the 2-semis currently being built on Lester Road in Quinte West which will become a place that 4 families will call home. Applications are currently open for Lester Road, please visit habitatpeh.org or email Meg (megl@habitatpeh.org) for more information.
The event was sponsored by BDC, Cambium, and McDougall Insurance, and a heartfelt thank you was shared by the Habitat PEH team for their generosity. Hazzem Koudsi, Habitat PEH’s CEO said, “Today was a true team effort, and we’re so grateful to the partners who helped us keep the momentum rolling. Homeownership remains a strong aspiration in our community, especially young people and families with children. Studies show that homeownership leads to improved futures for youth when raised in a home- owned environment.”
Gratitude also goes to our “take-out” sponsor Topper’s Pizza Belleville for providing a delicious lunch between draws for the teams. There was lots of variety for attendees, and delectable alternatives for all dietary needs! As well as many local businesses and individuals who donated prizes, cheered from the sidelines, and helped make the day a clean sweep.
“The camaraderie was incredible. Everyone was sweeping hard, cheering on one another, and having a blast,” said Sheridan Jennings, Chair of the Board for Habitat PEH, playing for the Habitat team. “We may not have landed in the house this time, but we definitely hit the sweet spot when it comes to community spirit!”
Events like the Bonspiel not only raise critical funds but also build community connections and awareness, bringing people together to support local families. Every rock thrown, broom swept, and dollar raised brings the community one step closer to a future where everyone has a place to call home.
