A major grant is coming to the Prince Edward County Memorial Hospital Foundation.
$600,000 is going to be directed towards the new hospital in Picton.
It is coming from the Royal Bank of Canada Foundation Community Spaces Grant.
The executive director for PECMHF Shannon Coull, says the funds will be directed toward the installation of a new solar panel system on the future hospital.
Coull adds the system could offset close to a third of the hospital’s energy demand annually.
“This donation from the RBC Foundation Community Spaces Grant comes at a pivotal moment in history,” said Coull. “We have the chance to redefine healthcare—not only by delivering advanced medical services but also by building a hospital designed to reach net-zero carbon emissions in the future. The solar panels this donation supports will create clean energy, lower costs, and make sure more dollars go directly to patient care.”
“From wayfinding signage to wheelchair ramps to solar panels, the RBC Foundation Community Spaces Grant is in place to increase sustainability and improve the accessibility of buildings where Canadians come together,” said Devinder Gill, RBC Regional President, Ontario North East. “Donations this year ranged from $25,000 to $1.6 million including to the newly built Ottawa Public Library Main Branch, CHEO Hospital, Leeds and Grenville Interval House and Prince Edward County Memorial Hospital to name a few. These examples show how we are helping make community gathering places more accessible – something that is at the heart of our purpose.”
