Hide-and-seek thief arrested
Belleville police received a call from staff at a north end business Saturday at 6 p.m. after a male customer was observed hiding a number of items on his person before attempting to leave the store.
Officers located the male in the parking lot, where he was placed under arrest and the merchandise was recovered.
Charged with theft Under $5,000 is Kevin Perrier of Belleville. Perrier was released on an undertaking with a September 21 court date.
Arrested on warrants
Belleville police officers arrested a 39-year-old city resident on an outstanding warrant Friday.
Officers on patrol in the city’s east end observed a male who was known to have an outstanding warrant for failing to comply with a release order.
Jeffrey Harris was arrested without incident and held for a show cause hearing the following day.
Police called about peculiar behaviour
A male acting strangely on a popular city walkway was arrested Saturday.
The incident took place Saturday morning around 11 a.m. when several members of the public noticed a male acting in a peculiar manner along the Waterfront Trail. While walking, he started harassing people using the trail and was also observed attempting to enter parked vehicles and a nearby home.
Officers responding to the scene located the male, a 32-year-old from Belleville, who was on three separate probation orders.
The male was arrested on three counts of breaching probation and held for a show cause hearing August 6.
Father arrested, young daughter brought to family
A 43-year-old Belleville man picked the wrong time to head out for a drunken walk with his young daughter, Sunday evening.
Responding to a complaint from a member of the public who was concerned for the child’s safety, officers located the male – who was heavily intoxicated – walking with his eight-year-old daughter on Tracey Street around 9 p.m.
The male, who was also wanted on two outstanding warrants for breaching probation conditions, was arrested without incident and held for a bail hearing Monday.
The child was transported by officers to her residence and left in the care of family members.
