Belleville Transit buses continue to carry more passengers as time goes on.
A report to the city’s Transit Operations Committee shows that in June the service carried a total of 119,807 riders.
That compares to just over 95,000 riders in June of last year.
Recent ridership numbers show the demand for public transit in the past several
months has equalled or surpassed those seen prior to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Meanwhile, a growing and aging population is increasing pressure on Belleville Transit’s mobility bus service.
Statistics show that for the first five months of this year, the service, which provides transportation to those with physical challenges, is up by an average of around 200 riders per month from the same period last year.
Due to the demand and bus breakdowns many users have been inconvenienced.
It’s expected that with the addition of two new mobility buses in the fall and other changes, the service will be much improved.
