“COVID is a political crisis, not a health crisis.”
Hundreds of people are gathered at the Lion’s Pavilion in Zwick’s Park in Belleville Friday afternoon, to protest provincial lockdowns.
MPP Randy Hillier was the guest speaker. He is the Lanark-Frontenac-Kingston Independent member and also one of the leaders of the multi level political group No More Lockdowns

Robert Bristol of Kingston drove to Friday’s rally and says he is not anti-mask or anti-science, but the lockdowns are more harmful than helpful.
“I know several people in the city of Kingston who have lost their businesses due to this. There was no point to this lockdown. It is getting to a point where it is becoming extreme.”
Glenda Alexander of Belleville came with sign in hand and says she was there to fight for freedom.
“I am here to honour my grandpa who went to World War 2 to fight for our Chartered Rights and Freedoms. I am here to stand up for our Chartered Rights and Freedoms because I want my grandchildren to have the freedom to live the life that I have lived. I see those rights slipping away.”
Hillier says these lockdowns are becoming close to martial law, and they are heading to a dangerous place. He says the facts do not lend themselves to lockdowns.
“Over 96% of everybody who has died with COVID, is a senior with significant pre-existing illnesses. 70% of all fatalities have happened in long term care. The average age of death with COVID is 84. That is older than the life expectancy of the average Canadian.”
Hastings-Lennox and Addington MP Derek Sloan and People’s Party of Canada leader Maxime Bernier are also part of the No More Lockdowns group.
Following the rally, many of those in attendance walked in solidarity to Belleville City Hall to continue the demonstration.
The rally came on the same day as Ontario recorded its highest daily numbers since the pandemic began (4,812).
