A major $1 million expansion is going ahead for the Asphodel-Norwood Community Centre, thanks to federal and provincial funding.
The Community Centre expansion project will construct a 3,500 square foot expansion to the Asphodel-Norwood Community Centre.
It will include a studio space, fitness area and accessible change rooms and showers.
Northumberland Peterborough South MPP David Piccinni has announced that the province is providing nearly $387,900, the federal government nearly $465,600, with the township contributing $310,400.
In a news release Piccini said, “The expansion to the Asphodel-Norwood Community Centre will not only benefit residents of the Township, but the six other local municipalities and First Nation communities that currently utilize the centre. This investment will help the Asphodel-Norwood Community Centre expand its building to offer more services and improve access to recreational activities. The expansion will better meet the recreational and social needs of residents and the surrounding communities.”
Asphodel-Norwood Mayor Rodger Bonneau added, “The 3,500 square foot expansion to the Asphodel-Norwood Community Centre will provide an opportunity for increased physical activity and mental health awareness for the seven local municipalities and First Nation communities who currently utilize the facility. This alignment of all tiers of governance continues to display how collaboration can ensure the sustainability of rural Ontario. Asphodel-Norwood thanks the Federal and Provincial governments for their continued support!”
