Quinte West council heard an update on the plans for the 401 between Brighton and Colborne at Monday’s council meeting.
The plan is centred around repairing old bridges and culverts in order to set the foundation for the eventual expansion of the 401 to six and subsequently eight lanes.
The representatives of the Ministry of Transportation submitted three options regarding the replacement of the bridge on County Road 26 including replacing the bridge to the west or doing it on the same alignment.
It is estimated that the work could be done in one night, overnight on off-peak hours, or in two nights overnight on off-peak hours depending on the decision made with how to demolish and rebuild the bridge.
The project has many environmental and engineering studies to be done as well as consultation with the public and property owners who would be affected.
