Belleville Police are again using a tasty option to reward local youngsters who “put a lid on it” while riding around city streets.
Operation Safety Treat is back again, in partnership with Dairy Queen Belleville and will see kids who are using their helmets while riding their bikes, roller blades, or scooters, rewarded with a coupon for a free DQ Blizzard.
Police say while helmets “don’t always look cool”, Ontario law requires all cyclists under 18 to wear a helmet and it’s up to parents to make sure all riders under 16 wear a helmet..
The program is unique to Belleville and started 20 years ago, with more than 400 coupons being handed out last year.
