The QUINTE CRAFT:OKTOBERFEST is getting a second chance to get the city of Belleville on-side for its proposed event in the downtown.
President John Alexiou of the Quinte Restaurant Association appeared before city council in August to outline plans for the day-long event at the Empire Theatre site, requesting services, and to have the city waive the fees for Quinte vendors, who are not from Belleville.
Some members of council questioned the request for outdoor washrooms, garbage and recycling, street sweeping and paid police services, and council tabled the issue.
A staff report before council on Monday recommends that the bylaw prohibiting food trucks in the downtown, licence fees for the out of town food vendors, and the noise bylaw, all be waived.
The resolution calls for Belleville to support the application for a “special license” to sell alcoholic beverages and that the request for other assistance be referred to staff for consultation.
Alexiou had told council that the Belleville Shrine Club is a partner in the project and that the Downtown Improvement Area supports the event.
QUINTE CRAFT: OCTOBERFEST will run from 11:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m on October 1st, at the Empire Theatre site and on the street area in front.
