Mayoral candidate for the City of Belleville, Paul Fleming, was a guest for the Meet The Candidates segment on The Lorne Brooker Show on 800 CJBQ on Tuesday.
Fleming went over his background coming from Chatham and the Toronto area to Belleville, which includes consultancy work with non-profit organizatons among other past job titles.
He explained why Belleville became an appealing area for him to move to 8 years ago.
“Maybe it’s the fact that the water is five minutes away from the house, and maybe it’s the fact that it has everything you need within a 15-minute drive, but not a ridiculous amount of everything you need,” Fleming explained on The Lorne Brooker Show on 800 CJBQ.
“We have everything here that you’d want, and it’s got that small town feeling to it that’s really wonderful.”
Fleming was asked about the state of emergency for homelessness in the city and how he would address the situation if he were to become mayor.
He said he would want more input from the public on how to address the situation.
“You know the homeless report was great, but it it didn’t ask people in Belleville what exactly is scaring you? How, you know, how can we make this situation better?” Fleming said.
“Because we are looking at a situation… We have a beautiful downtown. People will not come to that downtown because they’re scared.”
