Bay of Quinte MP Chris Malette talked about a number of topics during his Friday morning appearance on CJBQ’s Lorne Brooker Show, one of those topics being the ALTO high-speed rail project.
During the show, a recent report by the Parliamentary Budget Officer was brought up, suggesting that costs for the project could well exceed the originally-budgeted amount. Ottawa had released estimates between $60 and $90 billion previously, with the new estimates sitting between $75 and $113 billion.
MP Malette said that he’s more focused on affordability and the ongoing trade war than the ALTO project.
“I literally have not read the PBO report. I have been busy with other things,” said MP Malette. “It’s a 30-some-page report. I again, I want to read the entire thing to see what’s in it. I get what’s making the headlines right now. It’s the dollar figure.”
